What is Selective Mutism
January 30, 2023
Selective Mutism is a speech disorder in which children will speak in some seniors but not in others. These children may or may not have an underlying speech or language disorder. Thus seeing a Speech therapist is important inorder to address any underlying speech and language impairment.
Treatment for Selective mutism often involves a multidisciplinary team. That often includes a Speech Therapist and a social worker or psychologist. A social worker or psychologist is often seen in order to address the underlying anxiety that can cause children to develop Selective Mutism.
