Myofunctional Therapy/S.P.O.T.®

Speech Pathologist Oromyofunctional Therapy- Myofunctional Therapy, is a specialized program exclusively developed for speech pathologists and is available only at Long Island Speech. With over 20 years of experience and extensive training, Janine Stiene crafted this program which has achieved remarkable success with thousands of patients

Feeding Therapy

Feeding therapy is designed to support an individual accept, tolerate, manipulate, chew and swallow a variety of textures and consistencies as well as eliminate and/or teach the individual compensatory strategies to maximize nutritional intake in a fun and non threatening way. LI Speech’s feeding therapy program consists of multiple treatment approaches that are designed to increase a patient’s food inventory based on nutritional needs and to teach them how to manipulate, chew and swallow various textures and consistencies, eliminate secondary symptoms or diagnoses including but not limited to gastroesophageal reflux (G.E.R.D), excess flatulence (belching, hiccups), stomach aches, heartburn, vomiting or regurgitation and independent of inappropriate compensatory techniques.

Fluency

A fluency disorder a.k.a. stuttering or dysfluency is a type of communication disorder that negatively interferes with a person’s flow of speech. Fluency disorders can occur at various ages and for different reasons.

PROMPT

PROMPT, an acronym for Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets, is a multidimensional approach to speech production disorders that has come to embrace not only the well-known physical-sensory aspects of motor performance, but also its cognitive-linguistic and social-emotional aspects.

Augmentative Communication

Augmentative communication is a communication system that is used with individuals of all ages to support their overall ability to communicate. It can be used with a wide variety of disorders, diagnoses and can be utilized with both children and adults. Augmentative communication can also be utilized in combination with traditional language therapy in order to create a multi-modality approach as a means to facilitate language (ie. sign language, picture exchange communication system (P.E.C.S).

Voice (LSVT)

Voice therapy is a specialized form of treatment provided by a highly trained and qualified speech pathologist to treat individuals who suffer from a voice disturbance.

FEES

This diagnostic tool features an endoscope that contains a camera which is passed through the patient’s nostril into the nasal cavity to view parts of your larynx, pharynx and trachea while swallowing. A FEES can help your speech pathologist identify what parts of your throat or mouth might not be working well or what foods or textures you may need to avoid. It also allows trained professionals to observe penetration or aspiration of the bolus before or after deglutition, aiding in the diagnosis of oropharyngeal dysphagia.

Certified Lactation Counselors

The Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) designation from the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice, Inc. is the premier national certification in lactation management in the United States. CLC certificates are required to pass core competencies and skill verification as well as a psychometrically designed exam based on a job-task analysis.
